Landscape Commissions

Hi everyone!

Thank you so much to all who commissioned me to illustrate a landscape that means something to you over the last few months. I’ve enjoyed creating each and every one and hearing the reasons why they are special to you. From honeymoon spots to places near home, holiday destinations and date trips, it’s been great to hear the unique stories behind each location. I thought I’d share one of the final pieces with you and a bit about my process…

Surprise View, Derwent Water, The Lake District

Wow! What a beautiful spot. I have been lucky enough to go here several times and the view over Derwent Water is just incredible. It was very exciting when I was asked to illustrate this place for a unique Christmas gift. The customer wanted a colourful design with both bright and muted sunset tones. I first created a mood board with pattern and colour ideas for the piece…

I drew several quick line drawings of the landscape until I was happy with the main shapes and layout. Then I went on to carve out my pattern designs in to Lino blocks and printed them with black ink on to paper. I scanned these designs in to photoshop and began to layer up shapes and colours...

I gradually built up and coloured each layer until I was happy with the landscape. Then I digitally added some final details with a brush pen...
